Tips and FAQs
Are Happy Trails Botanicals products handmade?
Yes. Our products are hand-blended in small batches so we can give each batch the care and attention it deserves.
Where are your products made?
Happy Trails Botanicals products are made in Elora, Ontario.
Our roots are firmly planted in the Fergus-Elora area, with the Grand River and local trails continuing to inspire the brand today.
What does “small batch” mean?
Small-batch production simply means we make our products in smaller quantities rather than mass-producing them.
It allows us to carefully prepare each batch and keep our formulas simple and thoughtfully made.
Is your Outdoor Spray DEET-free?
Yes. Our Botanical Outdoor Spray is made without DEET and features a botanical blend of Lemon Eucalyptus, Cedarwood, and Geranium essential oils.
How should I use the Botanical Outdoor Spray?
Shake well before use.
Apply according to the directions provided on the product label, avoiding eyes, mouth, broken skin, and other sensitive areas.
Always review the full label before use.
Can I use your products on my dog?
Our Happy Paws and Happy Snout balms are created specifically with dogs in mind.
Always use products according to the label directions, and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
For dogs with allergies, sensitivities, medical conditions, or ongoing skin concerns, check with your veterinarian before introducing a new topical product.
What is the difference between Happy Paws and Happy Snout?
Happy Paws and Happy Snout are both made with simple, thoughtfully chosen ingredients, but each is formulated a little differently for where it’s used.
Happy Paws is a firmer balm made for paw pads, with calendula-infused olive oil and a slightly more protective texture.
Happy Snout is softer and creamier, with mango butter and less beeswax so it glides on gently and easily.
Both are made without essential oils and with dogs in mind.
.
Is it okay if my dog licks the balm?
Our dog balms are made with carefully selected ingredients and are designed with normal grooming and licking in mind.
They are intended for topical use rather than as a food or treat, so we recommend allowing the balm a moment to absorb after application.
How should I store my balms?
Store balms in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Because they are made with natural oils, butters, and waxes, their texture may soften in warm temperatures and firm up again when cooled.
Are your products scented?
- Some are and some aren’t.
Our scented Happy Hiker Hand Balm features Sweet Orange and Cedarwood essential oils, while an unscented option is also available.
Our Botanical Outdoor Spray has a naturally fresh, botanical aroma from its essential-oil blend.
Check individual product descriptions for full ingredient and scent details.
Why does my balm look or feel a little different?
Because our balms are made with simple, natural butters and oils, you may notice slight variations in texture, colour, or consistency from batch to batch. Occasionally, a balm may feel a little grainy due to natural temperature changes affecting the butters. This doesn’t affect the quality of the product — it’s simply part of working with minimally processed ingredients.
